Hunter Shoots & Kills Endangered Mama Gray Wolf, She Was Feeding Her New Litter

Wildlife authorities have found the dead body of a 3-year-old endangered female gray wolf near Summer Lake in Medford, Oregon.

The mama wolf, named “OR-28”, was illegally shot and killed by a hunter. This killing is a major setback to the endangered and vulnerable gray wolf population of Oregon.

The mama wolf had just given birth to her first litter of pups and was still nursing them when she was shot.

The pups have new been orphaned. Officials say that killing a breeding female can prove to be very detrimental to the entire pack structure and lead to conflicts in livestock.

A reward of $20000 has been announced for information that leads to the arrest of the culprit who mercilessly shot this wolf. Activists have already expressed fear over the rampant poaching and trophy hunting in the area. Spread the word and help find this shameless shooter.

Update: A 22-year-old Oregon man named Colton Dick was arrested after he confessed to intentionally killing the wolf as a hunting sport. He fired when the wolf was walking away. Colton managed to avoid prison with a deferred sentence. He received a one-year ban on hunting, supervised release and restitution of $2,500 to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and 100 hours of community service. Do you think this sentencing justifies his cruel act? Let us know in the comments.
